The report, which reviewed all aspect of the team's effort during the continental-wide event, was presented to the Ministry of Home Affairs in a special ceremony at the Government office in Honiara.

It was handed-over by NOCSI vice-president and Port Moresby 2015 Chef de Mission, Ronald Bei Talahasa, who declared the long campaign to prepare for the Games now over.

"We prepared, our athletes performed and Team Solomon did it," he declared.

The island chain, which became independent from Britain in 1978, boasts a population of around 560,000, and faces the added logisitical difficulties of a nation made-up of 347 inhabited islands.

But the team performed strongly in winning 28 medals in the Papua New Guinea capital, consisting of seven gold, six silver and 15 bronze.

This was good enough for eighth place on the medals table behind the host nation, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa, Australia and Nauru.

Ministerial official George Selwyn Palua received the report on behalf of the Government.

He thanked the NOCSI and all those who contributed to the Games, including the Government and all stake holders, as well as charities and other individuals who had donated administrative or financial support.

Attention will now turn to next summer's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, which should mark Solomon Islands' ninth appearence on sport's biggest stage since their debut at Los Angeles 1984.

They are yet to win a medal.
