Swiss Paralympic has extended its partnership with the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation (SPS) for a further four years, it has been announced.

The two organisations have worked together for 15 years and the new agreement will continue through until 2019.

SPS and Swiss Paralympic partnered in 2000 and the announcement of the extension comes ahead of next year’s Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which run from September 7 to 18.

The deal sees SPS, which aims to enable paraplegics to lead a self-determined life, continue to act as Swiss Paralympics’ main sponsor.

“With the extension of the contract, the Swiss Paraplegics Foundation highlights its great and significant involvement in Paralympic Sport,” a statement from Swiss Paralympic read.

“The aim of the SPS is to allow people with spinal paralysis an independent and autonomic life as possible.”

The news follows Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) being named the official airline and partner of the Swiss Paralympic and Olympic teams until the end of next year, which will see it offer special flights to Rio 2016.

SWISS will support both teams with air travel to important sporting events abroad, including the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Brazilian city.

Those travelling to follow Switzerland’s Paralympians compete in Rio will be hoping to see their competitors better the haul of 13 medals, including three golds, which they achieved at London 2012.

Two of their titles came in cycling as Heinz Frei won the men’s time trial H2 event and Sandra Graf took gold in the women’s time trial H3 race.

Their other Paralympic crown in London was earned by Edith Wolf in the T54 women’s 5,000 metres event.
