Italy’s Guendalina Sartori earned her second Indoor Archery World Cup victory of the season after defeating South Korea’s Park Sehui in the recurve gold medal match in Nimes, France.

Having won the opening competition of the four-event series in Marrakesh, Sartori had put herself on the brink of repeating the feat after reaching the final with a 6-4 victory over Russia’s Tatiana Biltrikova.

The 27-year-old looked likely to be involved in another tense match as she came up against Sehui, who had produced a world record score in qualifying, before advancing through the rounds.

Sartori, though, rose to the challenge in stunning style by only dropping one shot outside of the 10-ring during the course of the match to wrap up a 7-1 victory.

“I was nervous for the first arrows because I knew the Korean was very strong,” said Sartori, who earned Italy a recurve spot at the Rio 2016 Olympics following her performance at the 2015 World Championships in Copenhagen.

“I approached the match arrow by arrow and it worked, I won.

“I’ve been training in a different training centre with head coach Wietse van Alten since October, I’ve been working very hard, shooting, swimming and going to the gym every day.”

Sartori was joined on the podium by fellow Italian, Elena Tonetta, who overcame Russia’s Tatiana Biltrikova 6-5 in the bronze medal contest.

Further success for the Italian team was secured in the men’s recurve event, with Luca Melotto battling to a 6-5 victory over Russia’s Alexander Kozhin, following a shoot-off.

America’s Brady Ellison, who triumphed at the previous Indoor World Cup in Bangkok, earned bronze by overcoming The Netherlands’ Rick Van Den Oever 7-1.

The Dutch team were left frustrated by another American in the compound event, as Mike Schloesser fell to a 147-145 defeat to Braden Gellenthien.

Gellenthien’s compatriot Jesse Broadwater joined him on the podium by beating Italy’s Sergio Pagni 148-147 to earn bronze.

Mexico’s Linda Ochoa-Anderson claimed gold in the women’s event by overcoming Italy’s Irene Franchini 146-145, while Slovenia’s Toja Cerne won a shoot-off with France’s Sandrine Vandionant to claim bronze.

Las Vegas is scheduled to host the next Indoor World Cup from January 29 to 31.
