The Indonesian Floorball Association (IFA) was officially recognised by the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) at their annual meeting.

The IFA has been developing floorball in the country since November 2012, and recognition by the KOI has been described as "one of the pinnacles in establishing floorball as a formal sport in Indonesia".

In order to gain recognition, the IFA had to go through a demanding process.

There was detailed criteria to meet including showing evidence of proper governance, support from regional offices and tournament and activity records.

The IFA had to meet all of the conditions before it could be officially inducted by the KOI.

At the KOI’s annual meeting Erick Thohir, the organisation's President, reiterated that it is very important to develop various sports in the country and recognised the efforts of the IFA.

Thohir met Tomas Eriksson, the President of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to discuss the issue.

The IFA will now work to develop floorball in Indonesia and work closely with relevant stakeholders at domestic level.

It will also work side by side with the Asia Oceanic Floorball Confederation (AOFC) and the IFF in order to develop the sport further, particularly in south-east Asia.

It is hoped that floorball will be included at the 2018 Asian Games.

Indonesia is hosting the event in Jakarta and Palembang.
