Swiss Paralympic has appointed Conchita Jäger, who worked herself up to deputy secretary of Lucerne-based insurance company Suva, as its new secretary general.

The native Spaniard started as a law clerk and will join the Swiss Paralympic team in Lucerne, succeeding Veronika Roos.

"I'm really looking forward to the new tasks and will do everything with the team to continue the success story of Swiss Paralympics," Jäger said.

Swiss Paralympic President René Will added: "The Board of Trustees gives a warm welcome to Conchita Jäger into the Paralympic family.

"Her open, service-oriented personality, and organisational talents, as well as her great linguistic talents, will benefit the development of Swiss Paralympics."

Switzerland won five medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, winning two golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Four of those medals were won by men's T54 wheelchair racer Marcel Hug, who won gold in the 800 metres and marathon and silver in the 1,500m and 5,000m.

Cyclist Tobias Fankhauser took bronze in the men's H2 road race event.
