Gold Coast 2018 have launched their official ticket guide for next year’s Commonwealth Games, with the public able to make requests from April 24.

The guide was launched as part of Gold Coast 2018’s one year to go celebrations and 26 athletes helped unveil the guide here today.

They represented each of the 23 sport disciplines due to be contested at the Games.

Organisers hope the 20-day period before the request phase begins will allow the public time to digest the information and begin pinpointing which events they wish to attend.

"It is a two-tiered process and that is absolutely essential to maximise the preparedness," Peter Beattie, Gold Coast 2018 chairman, said.

"We are determined that everybody who wants to get to the major events will and we have kept them modestly priced.

"That is always a bit of a risk for an event due to budget matters, but by doing that we are targeting families.

"We encourage kids to be part of this.

"It is not first come first serve, but an independent process which is totally fair.

"The reality is these tickets will have a huge demand in the Gold Coast and they will get priority simply by the virtue of their sheer numbers.

"Everyone will be given a fair go and we will of course have people from overseas and we want that."

The ticket request phase is due to to begin on April 24 and run until May 22, with no orders confirmed or payments taken during this period.

Successful applicants from a random draw will be informed during June via email, with payments processed at the end of the month.

From July 2017 until the Games, remaining tickets will be available on a first-come, first serve basis.

In October, tickets holders will be assigned their seats based on their chosen price categories before they are distributed in January.

"Today is the first time that families will have the opportunity to go through the programme and decide which events they will come and see live," Kate Jones, Queensland's Minister for Education, Tourism, Major Events and Small Business, and the Commonwealth Games, said,

"There is nothing better for our athletes than a home ground advantage, so we want all Australians, Queenslanders and Gold Coasters to come and see for themselves these elite athletes.

"One year to go and we are very confident we will deliver the best Commonwealth Games anywhere in the world."

The ticket price includes all fees and free public transport on event days within the South East Queensland TransLink transport network, as well as the Cairns TransLink and Townsville qconnect bus networks.

Tickets are available for people with accessibility requirements at all events, with Gold Coast 2018 having affiliated themselves to the Queensland Companion Card programme, proving accessible seating with a complimentary companion ticket.

Infants under the age of two are granted free entry, provided they do not occupy a seat.

Gold Coast 2018 claim they expect 1.5 million spectators to watch action during the 11-day Games, due to take place from April 4 to 15.

The Games will feature 18 sports and the largest-ever integrated Para-sport programme, with 6,600 athletes from 70 nations and territories due to take part.
