The Germans defeated American opponents Ross Summer and Brooke Sweat 21-18, 21-12 in 30 minutes at the Rothenbaum Stadium to follow their victory yesterday over Brazil's Talita Antunes and Larissa França.

This came despite injury problems beforehand for Walkenhorst.

"This match was different from our first one but we did really well, only in a different way," said Ludwig.

"Kira is having some shoulder issues and I’m definitely impressed by her performance.

"She loves to play and especially playing here in front of our home crowd - we just want to get out there and play."

It came on a good day for home players as Julia Sade and Chantal Laboureur also topped their pool after a thrilling win over Czech opponents Kristyna Kolocova and Michala Kvapilova.

The German pair recovered from losing the second set to triumph 21-8, 19-21, 15-12. 

Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduardo Santos Lisboa also swept into the quarter-finals today.

They beat American opponents Lauren Fendrick and April Ross to top their pool 21-14, 21-17.

United States enjoyed better fortunes in the men's draw as Philip Dalhausser and Nicholas Lucenausa topped their group after defeating Austrians Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst, 21-17, 21-19.

Action is due to continue tomorrow in the German city.
