Germany’s dressage stalwart Isabell Werth topped the podium in Neumünster today as Germany claimed six of the top seven places at the International Equestrian Federation Dressage World Cup.

Riding Weihegold, six-time Olympic dressage gold medallist Werth, the defending World Cup champion, gained another win with a score of 86.810 points, while her compatriot Helen Langehamenberg finished second and Ireland’s Judy Reynolds came third in the Holstenhalle.

They scored 83.825 and 82.750 points respectively, which for Reynolds was a new Irish international freestyle record.

"It’s outstanding," Werth said.

"It’s like riding in a hot-spot and there’s a special emotion here, special people, special spectators, supporting us all the time."

Her victory at what was the penultimate leg of the Western European League season was her fourth of this campaign and fifth in Neumünster.

She now plans to rest Weihegold for the final World Cup event in s-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands between March 14 and 17, though the 49-year-old said she will take her second horse Emilio as well "just in case".

"It’s always good to have two horses qualified," the German, a nine-time world champion, said.

Langehamenberg’s second place finish leaves her second in the league standings behind another German Dorothee Schneider, who finished fifth today on her 50th birthday.

Only two German riders can join Werth in the World Cup Final in Gotheburg from April 3 to 7, with each nation limited to three entries.

With only the top nine in the league qualifying, Reynolds sits just outside the mark, despite her podium finish today.

Another strong performance in The Netherlands should see her through, however.
