The organisation revealed it plans to award the hosting rights for the Games in February 2022.

Cities interested in hosting the 2026 Gay Games have until February 21 next year to submit a request for information document to the FGG.

The FGG will release a long list of prospective bidders on February 29, before the main document becomes available on March 1.

A deadline of April 30 has been set for cities to signify their intention to bid for the 2026 Games, with the primary bid book due on August 1.

Following a series of question and answer sessions, the FGG Board and General Assembly will shortlist its preferred three cities on January 31 in 2021.

April 30 that year will be the next big deadline for bidding cities as they will have to file their expanded bid book by that date.

A vote for "presumptive and alternate" Gay Games hosts is scheduled to take place at a site selection meeting in November 2021.

The host, however, is not due to be announced until February 2022 after the FGG and the city chosen have officially signed the proposed licence agreement,

Liverpool in England declared its interest in hosting the 2026 Gay Games in March of this year.

The Liverpool City Region Pride Foundation claimed it would aim to use the city's "proven record for delivering large-scale, world-class sport and cultural events".

Paris staged the 2018 Gay Games and the next edition of the event will be in Hong Kong in 2022.

It is expected to be held as planned, despite widespread social unrest in Hong Kong in recent months.

In a statement, the FGG said the Gay Games "has continued to perpetuate the legacy of changing cultural, social and political attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people" since its debut in 1982.
