Neither sport made the official programme for the Games with India threatening to boycott in protest at shooting's absence. 

This threat was later dropped by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) who have now suggested to the CGF that events in the two sports are held in the country.

These would take place in India outside of the main Games programme, but count towards the Birmingham 2022 medal table.

The CGF and Birmingham 2022 will consider the proposal, which is also backed by the International Shooting Sport Federation, before a decision is made by the CGF Executive Board at its next meeting in London on February 20 and 21.

World Archery has sent a letter to the IOA to confirm its support for the plan.

"We appreciate the Commonwealth Games Federation's open-mindedness in assessing this new proposal from Commonwealth Games India," said Dielen.

"World Archery is proud of its Commonwealth athletes and recognises the Games as an important opportunity to give them the world-class competition that they deserve, as well as a vehicle to inspire grass-roots interest in the sport.

"We will happily work with the Commonwealth Games Federation and its stakeholders to make an archery competition a viable and valuable option for 2022 and beyond." 

Archery has previously appeared at two editions of the Commonwealth Games, Brisbane 1982 and Delhi 2010. 

The suspension of the Archery Association of India (AAI) because of governance issues is not thought to affect the proposal.

Dielen told insidethegames the AAI is due to hold an election on January 18, which should pave the way for the body to be reinstated.
