Mathieu van der Poel achieved his third International Cycling Union (UCI) Cyclo-cross World Championship title after triumphing in Dübendorf in Switzerland.

The Dutch star added another world title to those won in 2015 and 2019, crossing the line in 1:08:52. 

His victory concluded a successful World Championships for The Netherlands, who earned gold, silver and bronze in the women's competition yesterday. 

Thomas Pidcock made history after becoming the first British man to finish on the podium at the Cyclo-cross World Championships, recording a time of 1:10:12 to receive silver. 

The 20-year-old claimed junior and under-23 titles in recent years, and made a mark on the senior stage in his most recent performance.

World Cup winner, Toon Aerts of Belgium, was the bronze medallist in 1:10:37. 

Competition also took place in the men's junior event, with Thibau Nys winning in 38:50.

Lennert Belmans was second in 39:21, while Emiel Verstrynge came third in 39:28 to complete an all-Belgium podium. 

Marion Nobert Riberolle of France was the victor in the women's under-23 race, finishing in 48:31. 

In second was Kata Blanka Vas of Hungary in 48:58, while Anna Kay of Britain was in third in 49:11.
