The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) has announced the postponement of all its sanctioned tournaments until further notice, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, FITEQ says it regards the safety and well-being of athletes, officials, spectators and the wider population as its "number one priority" when organising international sporting events.

"FITEQ has therefore been in close contact with all Local Organising Committees following the outbreak of COVID-19 and has been diligent in following the most up-to-date advice from the World Health Organization (WHO)," the statement reads.

"In light of this, FITEQ has today resolved to postpone all FITEQ-sanctioned tournaments until further notice."

FITEQ general secretary Marius Vizer Jr said the world governing body is working closely with Organising Committees to "consider all options", including the potential rescheduling of competitions.

"FITEQ will continue to follow the medical advice provided by the WHO and remains in close contact with all Organising Committees of upcoming FITEQ events," the statement adds.

"Measures that ensure events are safe for all involved will continue to be implemented and FITEQ will update all stakeholders on any further developments related to cancellations accordingly."

More than 335,000 coronavirus cases have been reported worldwide since the outbreak began, with more than 14,500 deaths confirmed.
