The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has announced that this year's Ninepin Bowling European Championships in Poland have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event in the village of Tarnowo Podgórne had originally been due to take place in the last week of May.

But due to the current measures in place in many European countries to tackle coronavirus, and given the steps taken by the authorities in the host country, the Championships are now scheduled to be held from November 22 to 29.

IBSA recently published advice to athletes to help them cope during the coronavirus pandemic.

The organisation said athletes may find the current situation to be upsetting and unsettling, highlighting how routines, training and competitions are likely to have been disrupted.

It encouraged athletes to keep exercising during the period where practical, suggesting indoor mini circuits to help maintain strength and fitness.

Advice was also given to maintain a healthy diet, despite potentially being restricted to staying indoors during the pandemic.

More than 335,000 coronavirus cases have been reported worldwide since the outbreak began, with more than 14,500 deaths confirmed.
