The event had been due to take place from June 5 to 7, but the Organising Committee, European Rowing Board and the World Rowing Federation (FISA) are now exploring dates to stage it in September or October.

This is being done via a consultation with the Member European Rowing Federations.

"With the outbreak of COVID-19, the quickly growing number of cases now reported worldwide and the Government actions to attempt to contain the transmission of the virus, as well as the impact on athletes' training, it has become very difficult and unadvisable to stage international competitions during the month of June 2020," a FISA statement reads.

"The European Rowing Board, the FISA events team and the Poznań Organising Committee have been in regular contact since the outbreak began.

"All parties have realised the multitude of issues that would prevent teams from training and travelling during the next two months, additionally the travel restrictions being imposed by an increasing number of national authorities, mandatory and voluntary quarantine periods, and, in many cases, lack of insurance coverage for coronavirus in some countries."

Last week, the FISA Executive Committee held a teleconference call on the back of the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following the call, FISA asked each Member Federation to complete an electronic questionnaire. 

This is to help the world governing body gain a better understanding on what is happening at a national level and at clubs, schools and universities, while also giving National Federations the chance to have their say on the second half of the rowing season.

A comprehensive review of the impact of holding Tokyo 2020 next year is also being conducted.

FISA was also informed that television rights payments to International Federations are likely to be delayed, which will have a major impact on the body's operations in 2021.

The situation is being analysed and proposals will be forthcoming on how FISA can best prepare for this eventuality.
