Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot has won the Laureus Sports Awards Comeback of the Year prize for his return to form after beating cancer.

Parrot claimed the Winter X Games Europe big air title in Oslo in August 2019, just eight months after he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The 26-year-old, silver medallist in the slopestyle at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, had his final round of chemotherapy two months prior to the event in the Norwegian capital.

Parrot went on to top the podium in the big air competition at the 2020 Winter X Games in Aspen in January before adding the X Games Europe slopestyle gold to his collection in Hafjell in March.

The Canadian star won the big air event at the opening World Cup of the 2020-2021 season and earned silver in the same discipline at this year's World Championships.

Parrot said the award from Laureus was "easily the biggest achievement" of his career.

"Winning this award is very special to me," said Parrot.

"It's a recognition that I am extremely proud of.

"I share it with the many important people in my life that took part in this journey with me.

"The Laureus Academy told me they were inspired by my story and who I am as a person.

"This just inspires me to accomplish so much more."

American Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin was also nominated for the Comeback of the Year award after returning to competition following her father's death.

Japanese badminton player Kento Momota, who survived a serious car crash last year and is back playing, and American football star Alex Morgan, who made her debut for Tottenham Hotspur just 184 days after giving birth, were among the other nominees.
