Thailand’s Para-powerlifter Netsuda Panna has received a four-year ban for an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The athlete returned an adverse analytical finding for a banned steroid in a urine sample provided on July 19 2019 after competing at that year's World Para Powerlifting Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Panna, who won silver in the over-86 kilograms category at the 2015 ASEAN Para Games in Singapore, received an adverse finding for metandienone metabolite, which is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2019 Prohibited List under the class S1.1A of exogenous anabolic androgenic steroids.

As a result of her violation she will be ineligible for competition for four years from July 19 2019 to July 18 2023.

After issuing the judgment, the IPC reiterated that "each athlete is strictly liable for the substances found in his or her sample".

An ADRV occurs whenever a prohibited substance is found in an individual's bodily specimen, whether or not the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a prohibited substance or was negligent or otherwise at fault.

As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC), the IPC says it "remains committed to a doping-free sporting environment at all levels".
