World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue has told Tokyo 2020 coaches there is "no reason" why the sport should not be safe as a permanent fixture on the Olympic programme.

The South Korean spoke as the world governing body hosted an online workshop for the coaches of athletes who have qualified for this month's rearranged Games.

Choue also asked coaches to accept the results of Tokyo 2020 competitions without animosity if things do not go their way.

"We are 16 days away from the first taekwondo competition in Tokyo on July 24," said Choue in his opening address.

"I would like to first acknowledge your patience and dedication over the past year.

"It has not been easy for everyone but especially for your athletes who have trained so hard and waited an extra year to be in the Games.

"I wish to assure you that World Taekwondo continues to bring fairness and transparency to our sport.

"Therefore for the first time ever, the 4D replay system will be used at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

"Even though we suffered financially from the ongoing pandemic, we decided to invest in the system at our own cost to ensure the best athletes win in the fairest possible way.

"If there is a winner, there will also be someone who loses.

"Whether you are the winner or loser, we need to accept the results with grace and respect each other.

"As long as we trust each other and in the system, there is no reason why taekwondo cannot be a permanent sport in the Olympic Games.

"This is a goal that we should aim for together, and I thank you for your commitment."

The workshop was designed to brief the coaches on the latest information and protocols before the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sixty-one countries were represented in all.

Technical Commission chairman Inseon Kim provided a tutorial which covered "nine skills" needed to be a successful coach.

Dae Hyoun Jeong, World Taekwondo's medical chairman, gave a presentation on COVID-19 protocols and referees chair Songchul Kim explained the instant video replay system.

Games chairman Mohamed Shaaban discussed the competition format and schedule, before a Tokyo 2020 representative provided an information package.

Taekwondo at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be held between July 24 and 27 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

The sport will also make its Paralympic debut between September 2 and 4.
