Home star Kinga Dróżdż claimed the gold medal in the women's individual épée on the third day of the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Warsaw in Poland.

Dróżdż won the final by a score of 15-8 against Ukraine's Nataliaa Morkvych to win gold for Poland.

She had defeated compatriot Marta Fidrych 15-11 in the quarter-finals and then Georgia's number one seed Nino Tibilashvili 15-8 in the semi-finals before claiming the gold.

Number two seed Morkvych defeated Poland's Renata Burdon 15-3 and then team mate Yevheniia Breus 15-10 in the semi-finals before falling to Dróżdż.

Tibilashvili and Breus claimed the bronze medals.


In the men's épée individual, number six seed Maxim Shaburov defeated top seed compatriot Artur Yusupov 15-9 for the gold medal.

Shaburov defeated third seed Maksym Mahula of Ukraine while Yusupov won 15-9 against Polish eighth seed Norbert Calka in the quarter-finals.

This led to an all-Russian final four, with Yusupov defeating Nikita Trofimov 15-10 and Shaburov winning 15-6 against Roman Fedyaev.

Trofimov and Fedyaev both won bronze medals.
