Organisers claimed the two disciplines will add to the diversity of the second edition of the event.

A total of 12 competitions will be held in Para-canoeing, with a further four taking place in Para-rowing, with the events completing the sport programme.

Men’s and women’s Para-canoeists will contest the VL1, VL2 and VL3 200 metres events, with the CL1, CL1 and KL3 competitions also featuring on the programme of the Games due to take place between August 11 and 21 next year.

Men’s and women’s PR1 fixed-one events feature on the Para-rowing programme, which is completed by the PR2 mixed doubles and PR3 mixed foursome events.

"The European Championships 2022 are well on the way to becoming a major international sports festival that will be remembered for a long time," said Joachim Herrmann, Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Sport and integration.

"The decision to include Para sports in the programme is spot on.

"The move underlines the unifying function of sport and brings even more variety to the already highly attractive event."

the addition of the disciplines mean the European Championships will offer 176 medal events, with 4,700 athletes set to compete.

Athletics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon will feature on programme for the second edition of the multi-sport event.

Beach volleyball, canoe sprint, sport climbing and table tennis were added to the programme last year.

"I think the idea of the European Championships is terrific," said Dieter Reiter, Munich's Lord Mayor.

"In 2022 we will finally have another major sporting event in Munich with fascinating and exciting competitions.

"We also expressly support the integration of para competitions in canoe racing and rowing.

"Equality and social justice are more important than ever today.

"Discrimination and exclusion have no place in our society.

"Sport is setting the best example."
