World Archery Youth Championships compound finals took place in Polish city Wrocław today, with India beginning proceedings with a clean sweep in the cadet team events.

India defeated Turkey 228-216 in the first final of the day - the women’s team cadet event - and followed it up with a two-point victory over the United States in the men’s equivalent and three-point triumph over the US in the mixed team cadet gold-medal match.

Priya Gurjar could have earned a second gold medal of the day in the individual women’s cadet final, but lost by three points to Mexico’s Selene Rodriguez, although Parneet Kaur ensured India claimed bronze to go with Gurjar’s silver with a victory over Britain’s Hallie Boulton.

There was a shock in the individual men’s cadet final as Aljaz Brenk of Slovenia defeated top seed Sawyer Sullivan of the US 147-145.

The cadet events were for under-18s, and were followed by compound finals in the junior age category, open to under-21s.

Mexico won the women’s and men’s team junior finals, beating Russia and Turkey respectively by a solitary point.

However Mexico were on the end of a one-point defeat by Estonia in the mixed team final to deny them all three crowns.

In the individual junior events, Croatia’s Amanda Mlinarić successfully defended her title in the women's competition with a 141-140 win against Sakshi Chaudhary of India, while Estonia’s Robin Jaatma won his second gold medal of the day with a 146-144 victory against Mateo Mangelle of France in the men's final.

The recurve finals are being held tomorrow.
