Forward Hilary Knight tied fellow American icon Cammi Granato's all-time Women's World Championship goals record with her side's third in a 3-0 victory at WinSport Arena.

Grace Zumwinkle and Kelly Pannek also found the net for the US, as they earned a second consecutive Group A win at the tournament following their opening day success against Switzerland.

The US were full value for maximum points in their clash with Finland, who they beat to lift the title in 2019.

"It was a patient process on the offensive side," said US head coach Joel Johnson. 

"I thought we were really pleased as a group in how our team played."

Knight's strike in the third period saw her move level with Granato on 44 Women's World Championship goals and she is set to break the record during this year's competition, pushed back to August because of complications caused by COVID-19.

"To be honest, I didn't even know!" Knight said.

"You know, it's just one of those things. 

"You have to cherish every single minute you're in this jersey."

Hosts Canada also made it two wins from two in Group A as they thrashed the Russian Olympic Committee 5-1.

Canada seized control of the contest after a goalless opening period; three goals in the second period put them on course for a commanding victory.

Sarah Fillier broke the deadlock before Ella Shelton and Erin Ambrose quickly made it 3-0 to the 10-times champions.

Melodie Daoust and Emily Clark also got in on the act, while Olga Sosina added a late consolation for the ROC team.

In the other match played today, the Czech Republic beat World Championship debutants Hungary 4-2 in Group B.

The tournament continues tomorrow as Germany play Denmark and Japan face the Czech Republic.
