In the women’s omnium, Inna Abaidullina finished third in the scratch and tempo races, and had 106 points after the elimination, ranking her second to the United States' Kaia Schmid on 112 points.

In a dramatic sprint race, the front two Abaidullina and Schmid were tied on 116 points going into the final sprint, where the Russian’s six-point haul saw her finish on 122 - four clear of Schmid and 12 in front of Italy’s Valentina Basilico in third.

Russia also enjoyed success in the women’s sprint to claim their sixth gold medal of the meeting.

Alina Lysenko overcame Ukraine’s Alla Biletska in the final to clinch victory - her second gold in Cairo after winning the team sprint event on Wednesday (September 1).

In the men’s point race, Dylan Bibic was one of five riders to lap the field twice, and picked up 56 points to earn Canada’s second gold at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships.

Czech Radovan Stec earned a silver with 50 points, a total matched by Russia’s Mikhail Postarnak, who earned bronze after failing to score in the final sprint.

In the day’s other final, Samuele Bonetto’s time of 3min 12.351sec in the men’s individual pursuit saw him beat Germany’s Jasper Schröder by more than three seconds to earn Italy’s first-ever gold in this event.

There was also an Italian bronze courtesy of Andrea Violato’s win against Felix Bochum of Germany.

Tomorrow will feature finals in the women’s 500 metres time trial, 20-kilometre points race and individual pursuit, and the men’s sprint and omnium.
