Student-athletes from five Nigerian universities took part in the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP), ran by the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) hosted the second edition of the programme from September 26 to 29.

The OVEP is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) scheme that aims to communicate the benefit of sport and physical activity through an understanding of Olympism and its impact on individual health, enjoyment, and social interaction.

As well as hosts FUTA, the Ekiti State University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Edo State University and Elizade University were represented by student-athletes at the Olympic values workshop.

Kemi Ogundaisi, project officer for the NOC, said the plan was to enhance students’ discipline and dedication towards delivering excellence in human relations.

FUTA vice-chancellor Joseph Fuwape welcomed the chance for student-athletes to come together and claimed the scheme would help them prepare for life after university.

The second edition of the OVEP was being held at FUTA, which has staged a series of national and continental events as well as Olympic trials.

The OVEP is a series of free and accessible teaching resources, created by the IOC.

Using the context of Olympic sports and the core principles of Olympism, participants are encouraged to experience values-based learning and to assume the responsibilities of good citizenship.
