Olympic gold medallist Feryal Abdelaziz of Egypt will have the opportunity to add another major victory to her belt after she reached the final of the women's under-68kg kumite category at the Karate-1 Premier League in Moscow.

Abdelaziz edged out Victoria Isaeva by "Senshuu" - the first unopposed point - after their tight semi-final had ended 3-3.

World champion Irina Zaretska of Azerbaijan had been on course to set up a rematch of the Olympic over-61kg final at Tokyo 2020 against Abdelaziz but fell to a 2-0 defeat to Italy's Silvia Semeraro, who also represented her country at the Games.

Olympian Sofya Berultseva of Kazakhstan will face Russia’s Vera Kovaleva in the final of the over-68kg division.

Berultseva beat Ayaka Saito of Japan 4-0, while Kovaleva progressed to her first Karate-1 Premier League gold medal bout since 2016 following a 3-1 win over Brenda Padilha Pereira of Brazil.

Georgia's Gogita Arkania, who finished third in his pool at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, overcame Rob Timmermans of Curaçao 2-1 to ensure he got the chance to fight for the men's over-84kg title.

Arkania's opponent will be Aliaksei Vodchyts of Belarus, who recorded a string of surprise wins before thrashing Asiman Gurbanli of Azerbaijan 8-0 in the semi-finals.

The men's kata final will be an all-Japanese affair between Sakichi Abe and Kakeru Nishiyama, who is set to make his first appearance in a Premier League final.

Finals across all categories being contested in the Russian capital are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
