Spain's Olympic champion Sandra Sánchez claimed the women's individual kata gold medal on the final day of competition at the Karate 1-Premier League in the Russian capital Moscow.

Two months removed from her win at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the defending European and world champion defeated Sakura Kokumai of the United States in the final with a score of 28.14 to 25.8.

She keeps her Grand Winner title for another year with the victory.

"I am very happy because I am able to finish the season of Karate 1-Premier League with a victory," said Sánchez.

"It reinforces my expectations ahead of the World Championships and it gives me strength to continue fighting for my goal of winning the triple crown of world, European and Olympic titles in the same year."

Maho and Hikaru Ono of Japan won the bronze medals.

Kakeru Nishiyama won an all-Japanese final in the men's kata, beating team mate Sakichi Abe by 26.92 to 26.46, making it his first gold medal at the competition.

Ryusei Ikeda of Japan and Damian Hugo Quintero Capdevila of Spain were third.

Kazakhstan's Moldir Zhangbyrbay was given the nod in the women's under-50 kilogram final against Austrian Bettina Plank after the pair drew at 5-5.

As Zhangbyrbay scored the first unopposed point, she won the gold medal.

Croatian Jelena Pehar and Elizaveta Grigoreva of Russia were the bronze medallists.

Another Kazakh was victorious in the men's under-60kg final as Kaisar Alpysbay defeated Russian home favourite Evgeny Plahkhutin convincingly by a 5-0 scoreline.

Angelo Crescenzo of Italy and Russian Iurik Ogannisian claimed bronze.

A third gold was won for Kazakhstan in the women's over-68kg after a terrific comeback by Olympic bronze medallist Sofya Berultseva.

After falling behind to Russian Vera Kovaleva, the Kazakh scored an ippon and a wazari to win the title 9-5.

Egyptians Sohila Abouismail and Menna Shaaban Okila took bronze.

Gogita Arkania of Georgia upset Belarus' Aliaksei Vodchyts 2-1 in the final of the men's over-84kg to win his second crown of the season after a victory in Lisbon.

Asiman Gurbanli of Azerbaijan and Curacao's Rob Timmermans finished with bronze.

Egypt's Ali Elsawy claimed victory in the men's under-67kg final after a hard-fought battle with Yves Martial Tadissi of Hungary.

Danila Mikhailchenko claimed bronze on home soil, as did Austrian Stefan Pokorny.

Finally, defending European champion Anna Chernysheva won on home soil, beating Sabina Zakharova of Kazakhstan 5-0 in the women's under-55kg final.

Luxembourg's Jennifer Warling and Carlota Fernandez Osorio of Spain won bronze medals.
