Hassan Aliazam Yazdanicharati of Iran won a rematch of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic final, as the first medals were handed out on day two of the United World Wrestling World Championships in Oslo.

Men’s freestyle finals took centre stage and the most hotly-anticipated bout was the gold medal match in the men’s under-86 kilograms category between the Iranian and David Morris Taylor III of the United States.

Taylor was the winner in Tokyo, but the result was reversed this time with Yazdanicharati running out a 6-2 winner on points.

Bronze medals went to Artur Naifonov of the RWF, who beat Azamat Dauletbekov of Kazakhstan 3-0, and Abubakr Abakarov of Azerbaijan who defeated Slovakia’s Boris Makoev 9-5.

In the men’s under-61kg category Abasgadzhi Magomedov of the Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) won gold after overcoming Daton Duain Fix of the United States 4-1 on points.

Bronze medals went to Toshihiro Hasegawa of Japan, who defeated Tuvshintulga Tumenbileg of Mongolia 12-1 by superiority with technical fall, and Arsen Harutyunyan of Armenia who beat Ravinder Ravinder of India 10-0 by superiority.

The US claimed gold in the under-74kg category after Kyle Douglas Dake beat Tajmuraz Mairbekovic Salkazanov of Slovakia 8-6 on points.

Bronze medals in the category went to Timur Bizhoev of the RWF who beat Avtandil Kentchadze of Georgia 8-6 and Fazli Eryilmaz of Turkey, who overcame Azamat Nurykau of Belarus 2-1.

In the under-125kg category Iran’s Amir Hossein Abbas Zare defeated Geno Petriashvili of Georgia on points 9-2.

Bronze medals in the category went to Taha Akgul of Turkey who overcame Nicholas Edward Gwiazdowski of the United States 6-4 and Lkhagvagerel Munkhtur of Mongolia who defeated Oleg Boltin of Kazakhstan 5-3.
