Top seeds Akane Yamaguchi and Kento Momota booked their places in singles semi-finals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) French Open after negotiating tricky ties in Paris.

Yamaguchi, who won last week’s Denmark Open, came through a stern test from Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong in the women’s singles quarter-finals.

The Japanese star edged the opening game 21-19 at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin venue, only for Chochuwong to reverse the score in the second.

Yamaguchi regained the momentum in the decider, establishing an early advantage which she maintained to eventually seal a 21-19, 19-21, 21-16 victory.

South Korea's An Se-young, who won the French Open when it was last played in 2019, will meet Yamaguchi in the semi-finals.

An advanced to the last four in impressive fashion, dispatching Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min 21-11, 21-17.

Second seed Ratchanok Intanon was unable to recover from a slow start in her match against Japan’s Sayaka Takanashi.

The Thailand star suffered a 21-6, 21-16 defeat to miss out on a semi-final place.

Takanashi will face reigning world champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu of India tomorrow, following her 21-14, 21-14 success against Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

In the men’s singles draw, Japan's Momota came through a tough opening game on his way to defeating Shesar Hiren Rhustavito of Indonesia.

Momota edged the opener 21-19 to break his opponent’s resistance, before taking the second game 21-11.

He now faces an all-Japanese semi-final against Kanta Tsuneyama, after his compatriot beat Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu 21-16, 21-9.

Japan had hopes of having three semi-finalists with Kenta Nishimoto also in action.

Nishimoto battled against fourth seed Chou Tien-chen, but the Chinese Taipei player eventually earned a hard-fought 21-17, 19-21, 21-16 win.

The semi-final line-up is completed by South Korea’s Heo Kwang-hee, who overcame India’s Lakshya Sen 21-17, 21-15.
