Britain’s Alfie Hewett beat compatriot Gordon Reid in an all British battle at the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters as group action continued in the men’s singles competition.

In Group A, Hewett defeated compatriot Reid 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 while France’s Nicolas Peifer beat Martin De La Puente of Spain 7-5, 6-4.

In Group B, Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez came from a set down to win a second successive match, defeating France’s Stephane Houdet 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

The group’s other game also went the distance with Takuya Miki of Japan beating Tom Egberink of the Netherlands 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

In the women’s singles Group A world number one Diede De Groot of the Netherlands beat Japan’s Momoko Ohtani 6-2, 6-3.

In the group’s other game Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa came from a set down to defeat Dana Mathewson of the United States 2-6, 7-6, 6-1.

In Group B, Japan’s Yui Kamiji was a comfortable winner against Aniek van Koot of the Netherlands 6-1, 6-1 while Zhu Zhenzhen of China defeated Macarena Cabrillana of Chile 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles action also continued at the United States National Tennis Campus in Orlando in men’s, women’s and quad competitions.

In men’s Group A top seeds Hewett and Reid beat Egberink and fellow Dutchman Mikael Scheffers 6-4, 6-0 to lead the group with two wins.

Elsewhere in the group Casey Ratzlaff of the US and Alexander Cataldo of Chile got off the mark by beating American pair Chris Herman and Conner Stroud 6-1, 6-4.

In Group B, Houdet and Peifer beat Fernandez and De La Puente 6-2, 6-1, to move to two wins.

A second win of the group stage was also recorded by Jef Vandorpe of Belgium and Ruben Spaargaren of the Netherlands who beat Tokito Oda of Japan and Dermot Bailey of Britain 6-4, 6-1.

In the women’s doubles competition, the day’s Group A match saw Macarena Cabrillana of Chile and Montjane beat Maria Florencia Moreno of Argentina and Angelica Bernal 6-2, 6-4.

The day’s Group B encounter saw Momoko Ohtani of Japan and Zhu Zhenzhen of China beat Mathewson and Britain’s Lucy Shuker 7-5, 6-2.

In the quad doubles, played in a round-robin format, Dutch pair Niels Vink and Sam Schroder topped the standings after recording a second successive win when they beat Japan’s Koji Sugeno and Kyu-Seung Kim of South Korea 6-3, 6-4.

The day’s other match saw British pair Andy Lapthorne and Antony Cotterill beat American pairing David Wagner and Nicholas Taylor 0-6, 7-5, 6-3.
