Chiulli calls for sporting bodies to collaborate and innovate after IF Forum

Raffaele Chiulli has called on sporting organisations to collaborate and innovate in a speech at the virtual International Federations (IF) Forum today.

The Italian official provided the welcoming and closing address of the half-day forum, which was held virtually.

The forum was titled "Tokyo 2020 - Learnings and Take-Aways for the Future".

Over 400 officials were reported to have participated in the event with 125 International Federations represented.

Chiulli, SportAccord and Global Association of International Sports Federations President, said there had been "essentially takeaways" from the event.

No details have been provided regarding the outcomes.

The items discussed will reportedly set the agenda for the upcoming SportAccord World Sport and Business Summit in 2022.

"I truly believe that if we build on this togetherness and sense of community, sport will accelerate its development to emerge even stronger in the years ahead," Chiulli said.

"Let us continue to make progress as a sports movement, focusing on every level of participation for the sake of a healthy future.

"Of course, there will always be changes, as this is how sport continues to innovate and improve.

"Our challenge is to work together to ensure that these innovations bring the best out of sport and encourage participation at all levels."

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) had led the agenda for the event.

IOC sports director Kit McConnell presented on the topic "Tokyo 2020 Learnings From the IOC Sports Department", followed by a question and answer session.

Medical issues which emerged during the Games were discussed by Dr Pau Mota, senior manager of the IOC Medical and Scientific Department.

World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen and International Golf Federation executive director Antony Scanlon presented their experience of the Games in two case studies.

The IF Forum was held six months prior to the SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit, which will take place in the Russian city Yekaterinburg.

SportAccord hope the event, due to take place between May 15 and 20, will reunite the global sports movement in person for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
