Russia and Iran progressed to the Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup final following comprehensive victories against Portugal and Senegal, respectively.

The 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup winner Russia dismantled the European champions 7-3 with the help of a brace from goalkeeper Stanislav Kosharnyi.

The 27-year-old took advantage of the lack of pressure due to Portugal's deep defensive line by twice juggling the ball up to the halfway line before unleashing a venomous volley into the bottom corner.

All three of Portugal's goals came in the second period and preceded a red card for Andrei Novikov.

The final third was set up for a dramatic comeback with the Portuguese only down 5-3 with the advantage of an extra player.

However, the combination of stern defence and clinical counterattacking closed out the victory for Russia.

Fedor Zemskov completed his hat-trick after bagging Russia's seventh goal in the last minute of the game.

In the second semi-final, Iran pulled off a comeback victory to reach their fourth final on Kite Beach.

Mamour Diagne ensured Senegal got off to a flyer by scoring a stunning hat-trick in the first period, which was bookended by a brace from Iranian defender Mokthari Mohammadali.

Iran shipped a fourth goal at the start of the second period to the hands of Raoul but managed to make it 4-4 before the break through Mohammad Moradi and Amir Akbari.

Mokthari then netted his hat-trick to give Iran the lead for the first time.

A minute later Diagne was sent off which all but ended Senegalese hopes of its first final, with Iran ending as 7-5 victors.

The tournament will reach its climax tomorrow as Iran and Russia, both three-time champions, compete to become the tournament's most successful nation.

Iran will also be looking to win its third consecutive title.

The two teams have met in the final twice before, in 2013 and 2018, with Iran prevailing both times.

Elsewhere in the playoff rounds, Japan beat the United Arab Emirates 6-4 and Spain bettered Paraguay 5-4.
