Japanese duo Kento Momota and Akane Yamaguchi have been tipped for success at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Indonesia Masters at the Bali International Convention Center.

Momota is the men's singles world number one and has duly been given the top seeding.

However, the two-time world champion has not won a single tournament in this season's BWF World Tour.

His closest competitor will likely be Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, who got the better of Momota in the Denmark Open final last month.

The second-seed Dane is closely followed by his compatriot Anders Antonsen who has been seeded third.

Antonsen also sits in third place in the world rankings.

Last year's champion, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia, comes into the tournament as a dark horse at fifth seed on home soil.

Yamaguchi leads a strong field in the women's singles and will be looking for her third World Tour win of the season after success at the Denmark Open and French Open.

Defending champion Ratchanok Intanon has been touted as Yamaguchi's main threat and has been seeded second.

The 26-year-old is one of three seeded Thais with Pornpawee Chochuwong and Busanan Ongbamrungphan taking the fifth and seventh seedings respectively.

They will be joined by the unseeded Supanida Katethong and Phittayaporn Chaiwan, as the country's five athletes make it the largest delegation at the tournament.

PV Sindhu leads the charge for India as the third seed.

The two-time Olympic medallist reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals in Denmark and France, respectively, and will be determined to go one step further.

Her last title came at the 2019 World Championship in Switzerland.

Sindhu is the lone Indian competitor after her compatriots Saina Nehwal and Sameer Verma withdrew due to injury.

The winner of each singles event will be awarded $42,000 (£31,267/€36,690).

Both tournaments begin tomorrow and will run through to Sunday (November 21).
