Alpine Canada has named mining company Teck Resources as a premier sponsor of its team, extending a relationship between the two organisations that dates back to over a decade.

Previously, Teck has offered team support at provincial level to aid the development of Canadian skiers, as well as by funding athletes directly.

"I had the privilege of being sponsored for many years by Teck," said three-time Olympian Emily Brydon.

"They were an integral part of my career and are still very much involved in my life through the Emily Brydon Youth Foundation (EBYF).

"Our relationship was deeper than financial support, and while that was integral throughout my career, as well as more recently for the EBYF, I've always felt like we were a team, and I was a member of the Teck family."

The EBYF provides financial support to young people in Elk Valley in British Columbia through programmes in arts, sport and education.

Teck is one of Canada's largest mining companies and hold its headquarters in Vancouver.

"We’re proud to support Alpine Canada and the athletes whose dedication and commitment to excellence is an inspiration to all Canadians," said Don Lindsay, President and chief executive of Teck.

"Our employees are passionate about giving back to their communities through sport and Alpine Canada is a natural fit with many team members over the years coming from the communities and regions where we operate."
