The decision to omit the frame running and T33 athletics events from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games has caused uproar among the affected community.

Both disciplines are contested by athletes with cerebral palsy.

The Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA) said in a statement: "As a board and organisation, we remain hugely saddened that the Paris 2024 programme is unable to accommodate these and other events."

The CPISRA has stated that it is committed to working with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and World Para Athletics to change the event's sporting programme.

"We are supporting the approach by CPISRA, British Athletics and the British Paralympic Association to seek an explanation from the IPC and World Para Athletics as to why this decision has been taken," said Adi Fawcett, chief operating officer of CP Sport.

"Our counterparts on the International Frame Running Committee will be asking their representatives to make the same approach."

The international body has said that they will not set a timeframe on its negotiation process as "the considerations and arguments are multifaceted and hugely complex."

World Para Athletics had proposed the inclusion of frame running events in the Paris 2024 programme to increase opportunities for athletes with high support needs.

The disciplines are set to feature at the Sochi 2022 International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) World Games in Russia.
