International Luge Federation (FIL) World Cup leaders Johannes Ludwig and Julia Taubitz of Germany will be looking to capitalise on home advantage as the season resumes in Oberhof from January 15 to 16.

With two races remaining in the circuit, Ludwig holds a 101-point lead over 2017 world champion Wolfgang Kindl of Austria with the scores at 737 points to 636.

Meanwhile, Taubitz's 834 points puts her in pole position in the women's singles, ahead of Madeleine Egle of Austria on 762.

In total, 143 athletes from 25 nations are registered to compete in Germany with three weeks to go until the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Latvians Andris Šics and Juris Šics are also expected to extend their lead in the doubles standings.

The brothers have 773 points, to lead Germany's Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken on 691 and their compatriots Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt with 626.

David Nößler is set to make his debut for a strong German team at Oberhof.

The 20-year-old will be the fifth German to compete in the men's singles on a home track.

He leads several debutants who are set to feature over the weekend's action.

Cheyenne Rosenthal will be replacing Dajana Eitberger, and the doubles pairing of Hannes Orlamünder and Paul Gubitz are set to replace Robin Geueke and David Gamm.

The racing is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 9:30am local time with the first run of the men's singles which is followed by the doubles at 12:45 and the women at 10:30am the following day.
