Italy's Federica Brignone and Austria's Cornelia Hütter shared victory in the super-G at the Alpine Ski World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the final event before the opening of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games next week.

Olympic bronze medallist Brignone and Hütter, third in yesterday's downhill, finished in an identical time at the German venue.

Brignone, one of only two skiers in the top 10 on the overall World Cup standings competing this weekend, looked well set for maximum points when she crossed the line in 1min 18.19sec.

Hütter was behind the pace set by the Italian but roared back on the second half of the course to ensure she shared the win with Brignone.

Brignone had previously won 18 World Cup events, while today's result marked the Austrian's first win on the circuit since she claimed victory in the downhill in Lake Louise in 2017.

Tamara Tippler of Austria was third, 0.82 behind the joint winners.

Several top skiers, including American overall World Cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin and Slovakia's Petra Vlhová, skipped the event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to focus on the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Beijing 2022 is due to open on Friday (February 4), with Alpine skiing scheduled to start on Sunday (February 6).
