The Russian team of Sergey Bida, Georgy Bruev, Nikita Glazkov and Pavel Sukhov triumphed 41-35 in the final against Ukraine.

Each of the fencers with the exception of Bruev contributed to the Russian Olympic Committee's silver medal in the men's team épée at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, while Ukraine's team included individual bronze medallist Ihor Reizlin.

Volodymyr Stankevych, Roman Svichkar and Yan Sych also featured in the Ukrainian team.

Russia had edged past Olympic team bronze medallists South Korea 40-39 in the semi-finals.

This followed 35-33 and 32-29 victories over Poland and Kazakhstan respectively in their first two matches of the team competition.

Ukraine meanwhile thrashed Venezuela 34-19 in the last four.

Earlier in the day, they had beaten Azerbaijan 45-22, Sweden 45-38 and Japan 44-42.

South Korea recovered from their semi-final defeat to overcome Venezuela 42-39 in the match for third place.

The fourth-placed Venezuelans enjoyed an impressive run from the round of 32 which included wins against Germany, Italy and Switzerland, while South Korea saw off Israel and Egypt.

The Challenge Monal in Paris is scheduled to stage the next men's épée team event on the FIE World Cup circuit on April 17.
