Indonesia won the women's tournament at the Badminton Asia Team Championships for the first time in Shah Alam, but hosts Malaysia ended their dominance of the men's event.

The women's final at the Setia City Convention Centre featured Indonesia, handed a walkover from the last four after back-to-back winners Japan withdrew, against the 2020 runners-up South Korea.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung set Indonesia on their way with a comfortable 21-9, 21-10 win against Sim Yu-jin, but South Korea levelled the final after a three-game victory for Baek Ha-na and Seong Seung-yeon over Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi.

Further success in the singles for Indonesia came with Putri Kusuma Wardani's 21-10, 21-18 triumph over Lee Se-yeon, before they secured the title for the first time with a win in the second doubles match.

Nita Violina Marwah and Lanny Tria Mayasari overcame Kim Min-ji and Park Min-jeong 23-21, 21-11 to earn an overall 3-1 victory for Indonesia, consigning South Korea to silver for the second consecutive Asian Championships.

Thomas Cup holders Indonesia had won the last three editions of the men's competition dating back to 2016, but came undone against the 2020 Asian Championship runners-up Malaysia.

Indonesia as holders and men's Asia Team Championship semi-finalists Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea have reached this year's Thomas Cup in Bangkok, with Japan, China, Chinese Taipei and India qualifying by virtue of their world team ranking and Thailand as hosts to add to the Asian representation.

On the women's side, hosts Thailand, defending champions China, Asia Team Championship semi-finalists Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan, and Chinese Taipei and India have all made sure of their places as Asia's representatives in the Uber Cup.
