The Saint Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) has outlined its support for athletes in preparation for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe.

The organisation said athletes require high-level competition and training prior to their possible selection to the Games, with hopefuls only recently having been granted increased freedom to travel under COVID-19 protocols.

The SKNOC says it has committed to facilitating the preparation and qualification process for both Games.

St. Clair Hodge and Shawn Seabrookes were among the beneficiaries, with the beach volleyball duo having been granted funding to attend an intensive training camp in Brazil.

The SKNOC contributed £4,200 ($5,500/€5,000) for the pairing to attend camp, which was held from March 13 to 20.

Hodge and Seabrookes were coached by Carlos de Campos Moraes in a series of intensive training sessions.

The pairing will be hoping to compete at a second successive Commonwealth Games, after representing Saint Kitts and Nevis at Gold Coast 2018.

The SKNOC says it is preparing to send representatives in athletics and beach volleyball to Birmingham 2022.

Lester Hanley, a member of the SKNOC Games Preparation Committee, has visited Birmingham to gather information prior to the Games.

Hanley’s visit includes examining accommodation, logistics and Games facilities, as well as the COVID-19 protocols.

Lonzo Wilkinson has also attended a Chef de Mission seminar for the Caribbean Games.

The SKNOC expect to send an athletics team to the Games.

The Caribbean Games is due to be held between June 29 and July 3, with Birmingham 2022 scheduled to follow between July 28 and August 8.

Increasing the number of qualifiers in world and continental events has been outlined among the SKNOC’s key priorities in the build-up to Paris 2024.

The organisation has said it is seeking to support an increase in the number of ranked athletes and teams per sport qualifying for Games in the build-up to the Summer Olympics.
