Today's competition at the Hamdan Sports Complex was the seventh of nine and saw 208 men's and 160 women's athletes compete in the Emirati city.

In the men's final, Keszthelyi faced off against Egypt's Mohamed Yasseen and eventually secured a 14-12 win.

Yasseen was unable to find the form that saw him win gold at the World Cup in Manama in Bahrain as Keszthelyi demonstrated superb game-management skills to see out the result.

Britain's James Jeal and Lino Heurlin Vazquez were awarded bronze medals following their respective semi-final defeats to Yasseen and Keszthelyi.

"I can’t really believe it, because almost a month ago I won the European [Junior] Championships, which was my biggest result in my career so far, and this is just like a dream," said Keszthelyi.

"I didn’t do well in pools, had a tough draw, and then something changed.

"You have to keep chasing your dreams."

Husisian clashed with Israel's Nicole Feygin in the women's final who took a number of scalps en route to the gold medal match.

The age group world number one proved too strong for number nine ranked Feygin as she dispatched her 15-10 while Aleyna Erturk of Turkey and American Ketki Ketkar settled for bronze.

"I’ve been working really hard and my coach has been working really hard with me, and after a long day and a long year it feels great to get this result," said Husisian.

"I had a lot of comeback bouts, stayed calm and knew that I could do it.

"I took it touch-by-touch.

"This means a lot, it’s been a tough year."

The action continues tomorrow with the men's and women's cadet épée tournaments.
