Reigning Paralympic champion Alana Maldonado prevailed in the women's J2 under-70 kilograms category, consigning Aysel Imamverdiyeva of Azerbaijan to silver at Antalya Sports Hall.

Maldonado offered her endorsement to the IBSA's new classification system, which splits competitors into the J1 and J2 categories.

"I think it’s a very good thing that they made a split between J1 and J2 athletes," Maldonado said.

"It makes the competition a lot more honest.

"It is my first competition after the Paralympic Games and I am pleased with the result.

"I feel like I am improving each time and I look forward to this Paralympic cycle."

A Brazilian judoka also claimed gold in the women's J2 over-70kg, with Rebeca Silva placing first and Prescillia Leze of France second.

Brenda Souza De Freitas triumphed in the women's J1 under-70kg final for Brazil against Turkey's home favourite Esmer Taşkın, with Nadia Agostinar Boggiano of Argentina and Theodora Paschalidou of Greece taking the bronze medals.

Arthur Silva and Wilians Araujo were the other Brazilian gold medallists on the second day of competition in the men's J1 under-90kg and over-90kg.

Gokhan Bicer of Turkey took silver and Uzbekistan's Turgun Abdiev and Italy's Valerio Romano Teodori bronze in the lower weight category, with France's Jason Grandry placing second and The Netherlands' Daniel Knegt and Turkey's Onur Tastan third in the higher division.

Brazilian head coach Jaime Roberto Bragança credited the country's investment in judo for its success.

"In Brazil, we invest a lot in Paralympic judo and in blind sports in general," he said.

"There are many schools for visually impaired children and youngsters and they have judo on their programmes.

"One week per month we come together in São Paulo to train together at the Paralympic Sports Centre."

Hosts Turkey won a further two gold medals on the final day of competition.

Ibrahim Bolukbasi won the men's J2 over-90kg event, with Britain's Jack Hodgson finishing second and Kazakhstan's Dulat Bugenbayev third.

The women's J1 over-70kg competition was won by Nazan Akin Gunes, with Azerbaijan's Khatira Ismiyeva taking silver.

Zhanbota Amanzhol of Kazakhstan clinched the day's other gold medal, beating his compatriot Galymzhan Smagululy in the men's J2 under-90kg final.

Uzbekistan's Otabek Irisbekov and Britain's Evan Molloy were the bronze medallists.

Kazakhstan's capital Nur-Sultan is scheduled to host the next IBSA Judo Grand Prix from May 25 to 29.
