Spanish star Marin made her comeback from an 11-month spell on the sidelines with an anterior cruciate ligament injury yesterday.

The Rio 2016 Olympic champion continued her pursuit of a record sixth women’s singles title by beating Ukraine’s Marija Ulitina 21-7, 21-18.

Marin will now face Denmark’s Line Kjærsfeldt in the quarter-finals, after she secured a 21-12, 21-12 win against Spain’s Beatriz Corrales.

Tournament second seed Mia Blichfeldt came from a game down to beat Julie Dawall Jakobsen 14-21, 21-11, 21-17 in an all-Danish third round match.

Blichfeldt will face France’s Qi Xuefei, who upset fifth seed Yvonne Li of Germany 21-13, 21-15.

Third seed Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland and Belgium’s Lianne Tan will meet in the last eight, after both players recovered from losing the first game of their third round matches.

Gilmour beat Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba 18-21, 21-9, 21-15, while Tan overcame Bulgaria’s Mariya Mitsova 8-21, 21-9, 21-16.

Denmark’s Line Christophersen claimed a 21-16, 23-21 win over France’s Leonice Huet to reach the quarter-finals.

Christophersen will now face Turkey’s Neslihan Yigit, who beat Ireland’s Rachael Darragh 21-16, 21-12.

Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen received a walkover in his men’s singles third round match with Germany’s Max Weißkirchen.

The Danish star will meet France’s Thomas Rouxel in the last eight, following his 22-20, 21-12 win over England’s Toby Penty.

Israel’s Misha Zilberman provided a shock by beating the Netherlands’ Mark Caljouw, beating the fourth seed 21-16, 15-21, 21-16.

Zilberman will face Brice Leverdez for a place in the semi-finals, with the Frenchman having won a hard-fought match 24-22, 16-21, 21-16 against Slovakia’s Milan Dratva.

Defending champion Anders Antonsen recorded a straight games 21-13, 21-15 win against Spain’s Luís Enrique Peñalver in the third round.

Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen will face the Danish player in the quarter-finals, after winning 21-15, 21-14 over the Netherlands’ Joran Kweekel.

Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus edged into the last eight with a 17-21, 26-24, 21-12 triumph over Tobias Kunzi, while France’s Toma Junior Popov won 21-16, 21-7 against Sweden’s Felix Burestedt.
