Softball Canada has announced Keith Mackintosh as the head coach of the women's under-18 national team.

Mackintosh is set to lead the team at the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-18 Women's Softball World Cup in 2025.

"I am honoured to be selected as the head coach of junior women's national team and look forward to the challenge of qualifying for the 2025 WBSC Under-18 World Cup," said Mackintosh.

"I am excited for the new format that allows us to develop a team over a four-year cycle with the goal of another podium finish in 2025."

It will be Mackintosh's fifth cycle with Canada's junior women's national team and third as head coach.

He served as an assistant coach in 2013 and 2015 before becoming head coach in 2017 and went on to lead Canada to its first-ever medal at the junior women's level with bronze at the 2019 Under-19 World Cup.

"I have been so impressed with coach Tosh in his willingness to learn and his ability to connect with players," said Canada's women's national team head coach Kaleigh Rafter.

"He understands our vision with the national team and the importance of growing the game at the junior level.

"He is passionate about coaching, and I am so excited for our younger athletes to grow through that passion."

The WBSC agreed last year a new competition format, named "Two Stage World Cup", switching from a two-year to a four-year cycle.

The move sees the group stage of the Under-18 Women's Softball World Cup, featuring 18 teams divided among different groups and locations, played in 2024.

The top two teams from each group plus two wildcards will then advance to the finals scheduled to be held in 2025.
