After a goalless first period, Benjamin Nißner of Austria and Rudolfs Balcers of Latvia scored for their teams.

Rihards Bukarts handed Latvia their first lead of the match before Dominique Heinrich levelled.

Balcers restored Latvia’s advantage under five minutes till the break.

Thomas Raffl equalised but it ended in vain as Bukarts netted the winning attempt in the shoot-out.

In Group A, Germany crushed Italy 9-4 following a 4-0 jumpstart in the first period.

Alexander Karachun, Kai Wissmann, Yasin Ehliz and Daniel Fischbuch were on the scoresheet in the first period.

Lukas Reichel added to Germany’s tally before Tommaso Traversa got one back for the Italians.

Fischbuch got his second of the night to complete the second period.

Ehliz and Karachun made it 8-2 to the Germans moments after the break.

Italy’s Luca Frigo and Daniel Mantenuto netted consolation goals.

Samuel Soramies scored Germany’s ninth.

Alex Petan was successful in reducing the deficit seconds from the end.

The final match of the day saw Slovakia defeat Kazakhstan 4-3.

Kirill Panyukov and Dmitri Shevchenko overturned an early Slovakian lead via Andrej Kollár.

Slovakia countered in the second period thanks to goals from Martin Fehérváry, Adam Liska and Juraj Slafkovský.

Panyukov brought Kazakhstan back into the match soon into the third period but Slovakia were able to close out for the win.
