The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has created the Digital Transformation Commission (DTC) as a way of gathering key figures of the world’s technology sector to further the understanding between gaming, esports, active esports, sport, technology and music.

The new Commission will look to improve the collective contributions of the innovative technology sector with the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the strategic partner of the GEF, as well as other global social impact initiatives.

The new commission will be chaired by Dubai-based Abdulla Al Gurg, who is the vice-president of Emirates Esports.

Al Gurg is a Board member of the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group, a conglomerate of 27 companies which range from building and construction and industrial to retail and joint ventures.

He also serves as a Board member of the National Bank of Fujairah.

"I’m delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the Global Esports Federation’s community and lead the work connecting the world’s technology sector," Al Gurg said.

"As Chair of the forward-looking Digital Transformation Commission, we seek to bring together innovators and thinkers as we embrace a new chapter in the world’s digital transformation journey.

"The energy of the world’s esports community keeps us moving forward and thinking about tomorrow and beyond."

Dubai, where Al Gurg is based, is scheduled to host the first leg of the Global Esports Tour this month.

Dubai’s Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) also launched the VARA MetaHQ, which is the only metaverse base for the online world, The Sandbox.

"We look to the future and our connection and understanding across the diverse technology sector are becoming increasingly important," Paul J. Foster, chief executive of the GEF, said.

“As we think about the way esports, sport, immersive education, music, and our creative culture is shaping opportunities for stakeholders and fans on every continent, we are creating a tangible path into the metaverse.”
