The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) has launched a consultation process to help create a 10-year global development strategy for the sport.

The process will be conducted online and is hoped to provide an insight into the views of wheelchair basketball and the wider community.

The governing body is eager to hear from all of the sport's stakeholders and as a result has created two surveys for its members, one for national federations and one for the community.

It will feed into the IWBF's directives and guidelines to its strategy with an expectation that it will help to build a sustainable platform to grow the sport over the next decade.

"With the recent challenges the sport has faced over the past three years, it has felt that instead of being able to plan and look ahead, we have needed to be constantly reactive," said IWBF President Ulf Mehrens.

"The sport is now at a crucial point as we look to continue its development and cement our position within the Paralympic movement.

"Our aim is to deliver this ambitious and exciting project to lay a clear path for the future of our sport.

"We want to listen to our members and our community to create a shared vision and ambition for our sport that will take wheelchair basketball to the next level."

In partnership with British Wheelchair Basketball, with funding from UK Sport, the IWBF has appointed global management consultancy firm Portas to lead the development of its new long-term strategy.
