The Netherlands' Bart Lambriex and Floris van der Werken sailed to back-to-back 49er world titles as compatriots Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz secured the 49erFX gold medal in Nova Scotia.

There was also joy for Italian pair Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti who sealed the Nacra17 title to conclude the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra17 World Championships.

Lambriex and Van der Werken entered the final 49er race knowing they were already on top of the podium after posting an unbeatable score.

Their only mission was to get to the finish line and they did so by coming ninth in a 10-boat race.

For this reason, all eyes were on who would take silver and bronze with Spaniards Diego Botin and Florian Trittel succeeding in their quest for second, by just two points, as Croatian brothers Sime and Miho Fantela settled for third.

Defending world champion Van Aanholt and Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Duetz registered a third-place finish in the 49erFX medal race to fend off the challenge of Sweden's Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler, who finished last in 10th.

Despite the poor final showing, Bobeck and Netzler could not drop to third, leaving Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barcelo to take bronze following an eighth-place finish.

Meanwhile, Olympic champions Tita and Banti were confirmed as the winners of the Nacra17.

The Italians dominated the competition, winning all but two of their initial 16 races.

They posted fifth in the medal race and they had more reason to be pleased with compatriots Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei also confirmed as the silver medallists.

Finnish duo Sinem Kurtbay and Akseli Keskinen also sealed their spot as the bronze medallists for the competition.
