Pacific Games organisers plan to mark the one-year countdown to the event with parade in Honoria this weekend.

A parade representing the 24 countries due to compete will make its way through the capital tomorrow.

The procession is also due to depict the sports on the programme.

There are 23 sports, including three codes of rugby, due to be contested.

Solo, the 2023 Pacific Games' turtle mascot, is also promised to play a prominent role and distribute t-shirts.

The Solomon Islands has never staged the Pacific Games before.

November 19 to December 2 next year is the window assigned for the multi-sport event, which Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says means the country cannot also hold a general election in 2023.

Sogavare has therefore had his term extended beyond the constitutional limit of four years in a move critics say it is a power grab and undemocratic.
