The World Triathlon Executive Board has met here to approve its competition calendar for 2023, with the Championship Series set to run from March until September.

This year's Series is concluding in the United Arab Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi with a three-day Championship Finals event, having began in Yokohama in May.

Abu Dhabi is a regular host of the season-opening Series event, and is set to re-assume that responsibility on March 4 and 5 2023 under the approved plans.

Stops have also been scheduled in Yokohama, Hamburg and Sunderland before the Finals in Pontevedra on September 23 and 24, which is again set to incorporate the World Triathlon Para Championships.

The event in Hamburg on July 15 and 16 is set to double up as the Sprint and Mixed Relay World Championships.

Sprint distances competitions are scheduled for Abu Dhabi and Sunderland, the latter also staging a mixed relay, while Yokohama and Pontevedra are due to host races in the Olympic distance.

World Triathlon said that "more events will be announced in the coming weeks" on the triathlon calendar.

Twelve World Triathlon Cup events have been approved, running from New Plymouth in New Zealand on March 25 and 26 to Miyazaki in Japan on October 28 and 29.

Three Para Series and four Para Cup events are on the calendar, and "further additions are foreseen".

A Paris 2024 test event is due to feature competitions in the Olympic distance, mixed relay and Para triathlon.

The approved calendar takes account of World Triathlon's Winter Championships in the Norwegian resort of Skeikampen on March 25 and 26 and the Multisport Championships on the Spanish Island of Ibiza from April 29 to May 7.

Four host cities for the Arena Games Triathlon, a circuit scheduled for February 25 to April 8 featuring hybrid online and in-person competitions, are due to be announced jointly with Super League Triathlon - a private entity which partners with World Triathlon.

This year's triathlon season is due to conclude tomorrow with the last day of the Championship Finals.
