The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPCG) has confirmed that the IPC endorsed the #WalkInMyShoe initiative which aims to "break the stigma attached to Para sports" in African nations at the organisation's Extraordinary General Assembly in Berlin.

It is hoped the campaign can be used as a tool to promote inclusion and attract people in positions of power to invest in Para sports.

"This game-changer initiative tends to demystify the stigma against Para sports, attract significant investment, increase the Para athlete population and be the starting point for African athlete development programmes," a statement from the NPCG read on Twitter.

African Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen spoke about the initiative when attending the IPC Extraordinary General Assembly.

Deen also confirmed that 50 nations were due to compete at the African Para Games, scheduled to be held for the first time next year.

Deen is a member of the Accra 2023 Organising Committee.

Dates are still yet to be confirmed for the multi-sport event, although it is likely to take place after the African Games which is scheduled to be staged from August 4 to 19.

There is uncertainty over the staging of the African Games with host Ghana facing a financial crisis and infighting between various continental stakeholders.
