England were crowned Croquet World Cup champions after an impressive triumph against hosts Australia at the Victoria Croquet Centre in Melbourne.

Victory was sealed on the final day of play courtesy of Mark Avery after England needed just one win from the remaining six matches to capture the title.

The teams were level at 3-3 after the first two rounds of doubles but this all changed in the first round of singles when England pulled off a superb 5-1 victory.

The final round of doubles saw England extend their lead, winning 2-1 to put them on the brink of the title with one day to go.

England then saw off Australia, completing a 13-8 success.

Avery and Burch won all nine of their doubles matches to become only the fourth pair to finish the final unbeaten.

Burch also won all six singles matches, while Avery and Christian Carter only lost one game of singles.

Captain Samir Patel lifted the trophy along with Avery, Burch, Carter, James Death and Harry Fisher.

England had also defeated the United States and New Zealand in the tournament.
